You Were Created to Worship -Sunday Teaching
YOU WERE CREATED TO WORSHIP By PASTOR JUNE LUTWAMA
Worship is the highest form of intimacy with God. It is a type of prayer, prayer simply being communication with God.
You were created for intimacy with God. Most of our communication and relationship with God is based on our needs. Most people know God only as a forgiver of sins and a solver of problems. This may be true but that is not the real reason God created you.
When Adam was created he had no problems to solve and no sins to forgive. He was created for intimacy with God. In fact the day he sinned the Bible says God came walking down in the garden in the cool of the evening. As was His habit. God and Adam would just hang out. It says:
8 Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. ( Genesis 3.8)
Adam lost all that when he sinned in Genesis 3. His sin separated him with God and from that point everyone is born with that contaminated , fallen nature. We can’t naturally connect with God. But that was never God’s intention.
So God sent Jesus. Who is called the second Adam. Meaning what the first Adam failed to do, Jesus restored. It says:
So it is written: ‘The first man Adam became a living being’; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit. ( 1 Corinthians 15.45)
Above all Jesus by nullifying our sin on the cross gave us back FULL ACCESS to the throne room. No sin to keep us out. The starting point of worship is to get born again by receiving Jesus as Lord and savior. Because Jesus is the way / door to the father. The first step in true worship is to receive Jesus as Lord and savior to connect with Him in Spirit. The Bible says:
Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. ( John 14.6)
You become a new creature ( 2 Corinthians 5.17) when you do. And above all you are part of God’s family with full benefits ( John 1.12). Your spirit becomes alive to God. Jesus said :
“But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.””
John 4:23-24
You are able to communicate freely with God when you are born again. You now have the ability to worship and have intimacy with God.
Many people, however have taken this step of receiving Jesus but have never cultivated their intimacy with God. Their understanding of God is of him as a helper not a loving father who craves intimacy with us.
But true worshippers don’t just want the hand of God. ( his help, his gifts) . They seek the face of God unconditionally.
Worship starts with thanksgiving. Then telling God His attributes . Then expressing your love for Him. Your adoration and your desire to know Him. You are not asking for things . You are just fellowshipping with Him, loving Him, praising Him, submitting to Him, dwelling in His Word.
The presence of God lingers around you if you become such a worshipper . Because you seek intimacy with God, not just His help. You seek to know Him like Moses showed us. Moses wanted to dwell in God’s presence and know His ways. It says:
“Thus the Lord used to speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. When Moses turned again into the camp, his assistant Joshua the son of Nun, a young man, would not depart from the tent. Moses said to the Lord, “See, you say to me, ‘Bring up this people,’ but you have not let me know whom you will send with me. Yet you have said, ‘I know you by name, and you have also found favor in my sight.’ Now therefore, if I have found favor in your sight, please show me now your ways, that I may know you in order to find favor in your sight. Consider too that this nation is your people.” And he said, “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” And he said to him, “If your presence will not go with me, do not bring us up from here. And the Lord said to Moses, “This very thing that you have spoken I will do, for you have found favor in my sight, and I know you by name.” Moses said, “Please show me your glory.””
Exodus 33:11-15, 17-18
