One Man Can Change The World-Do You Believe this?

BY MATILDA PHIRI

One man can change the world, and that's what I believe. I believe that you are that person who can bring about change in your country. While I may not be aware of the specific problems you are facing, you are aware of them, and you have the power to change them. You have a purpose, so awaken and start making a difference wherever you can. Be a responsible citizen, as your country is in desperate need of you. Do not underestimate yourself.

If you are from Malawi, where there are numerous cases of school dropouts, starting from primary and secondary school, then take action. For instance, many girls drop out due to early marriages and unwanted pregnancies, making them vulnerable to HIV. In Malawi, young people account for 50% of new HIV infections, with a higher prevalence among certain age groups, such as 15-17 year olds. According to the UNAIDS Data of 2017, 3.6% of young women and 2.5% of young men (aged 15-24) are living with HIV in Malawi. Urban youth tend to have more knowledge about HIV compared to their rural counterparts. As a responsible citizen, you can make a significant impact by providing civic education to young people before they contract HIV or experience unwanted pregnancies. You can do something to ensure that they receive assistance. Additionally, for those who dropped out of school due to poverty, you can empower them by supporting their return to education. Have you ever visited your home village to see how pupils or students are faring in schools? What do you tell the school dropouts? Do you try to support them with whatever they lack to continue their education? Do you feel concerned about them and take action? I know you can do it, so please start taking these steps. It is our country, and we should fight for it. By transforming lives and finding your purpose, you will also benefit as a human being.

One man can change the world, and that person is you. Influence and educate rural young people in five or ten villages near your area or village. Discuss how HIV/AIDS has devastated many lives and how it can be prevented. Encourage them and emphasize how education can change their lives by sharing real-life success stories of educated Malawians. You can also share your own achievements and experiences. This is crucial because we need youth with broad knowledge who can contribute to the development of our country. You can achieve this. It is the duty of every Malawian citizen to assist the government in achieving its goals. Do not leave everything to the government. You were born in Malawi for a purpose; find that purpose and fulfill it.

As a responsible citizen, there are many things you can do for your country. Have you recently visited patients in hospitals or prisoners who are not your relatives, to offer encouragement or provide food? The March 2023 Cyclone Freddy in Malawi has caused immense destruction, claiming numerous lives and damaging properties and houses. Many people have been displaced, and they need your support. Have you taken any initiative to visit the camps where cyclone victims are staying? If not, why? Put yourself in their shoes and consider how you would feel. Even with the little you have, you can share and provide comfort to them. They require support in various forms, including spiritual, psychological, physical, and emotional. The cyclone was an unimaginable event for Malawi, resulting in the loss of around one million lives. We needed to stand together as one. Be a responsible citizen.

The Cyclone Freddy also destroyed many roads in our country. What have we done to repair the roads in our areas? Are we still waiting for the government to fix even the minor damages, when we have energetic youth who can help reconstruct the roads? Where is your sense of patriotism? Take action and do what is right in this regard.

We witness our neighbors suffering, lacking food, while we have plenty. Why not share them and also share good ideas with them on how they can generate income through small businesses and provide them with the capital to start? Why are we so selfish that we only seek personal wealth and strive to showcase material possessions like fancy cars and fashionable clothes, while our friends go without dinner? How can we develop with such a mindset? If we claim to worship Jesus, would He be pleased to see us driving luxury cars while our friends and neighbors suffer? Isn't there a verse in the Bible that says, Jesus will deny you, stating that you did not provide food when He was hungry or visit Him in prison or the hospital? If you want to witness the true suffering of Jesus, you should be the first to support Him with all your wealth to see heaven. So why not treat these individuals the same way? Don't miss out on experiencing heaven on earth while you are alive and have something to give to others. Be a giver and a helper today. By doing so, you will enjoy the bountiful fruits that life offers. You are the one man the world has been waiting for, so do not underestimate yourself.
